Telemark Skifahren:
Telemark skiing is a traditional and elegant discipline dating back to the 19th century, originating in the Norwegian region of Telemark. The characteristic Telemark turn requires a special technique and equipment—unlike alpine skiing, the heel remains free to move.
This allows for dynamic, flowing movements that lend the Telemark style a certain lightness and aesthetic appeal, fascinating both spectators and skiers alike—a true feeling of freedom #freeheel.
In recent decades, this type of skiing has seen a resurgence as an alternative to traditional alpine skiing and is increasingly observed here at Kronplatz. Its appeal lies in the combination of athletic challenge (countless squats and lunges) and the nostalgic flair of skiing "as it used to be."
Telemark skiing is often considered the supreme discipline of skiing, requiring exceptional body control and a precise skiing style, often referred to as "dancing on snow."
